Picture yourself walking in a lush botanical garden, the path is set out before you. But you find that there are many stepping stones that lead you off on a different path to view new plants and trees that are not on the main pathway. They are all so lovely and the scent is so luxurious and comforting. Many times in life we set out on a main path but we take a side jaunt and become distracted or perhaps it is a new opportunity. I found myself in a similar cross roads this year. I was on one path, but felt the tug to step onto a new stone to the side. I was not sure what would be on that path and in fact the stepping stones were not marked out very clear. In fact, I found myself standing on one waiting for the next to be revealed- very similar to Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade. It has been a year filled with questions but full of faith, knowing that God will reveal each step as He knows I am ready. Along the way there have been many confirmations- a verse received on the very day that I need it, an encouraging word from a friend, a phrase stated by a stranger who has no clue what I may be dealing with.
The other visual that comes to mind with stepping stones is a baby. I have a nephew, Noah, who is 6 months old. I had the pleasure of seeing and playing with him at Thanksgiving. He is on the verge of crawling. It brought to mind how beautifully & wonderfully we are made. Babies first have to build their core muscles and learn to roll over, then prop themselves up on their arms & knees, begin to rock and then crawling begins. Next comes the pull up, standing and the first foot steps. It is an amazing process. Sometimes a slow process, but none the less filled with moment. Life is so much like this, filled with baby steps.
I am such a dreamer filled with big dreams and even bigger expectations for myself. I develop new ideas, product, etc. and expect it to take off big- wham, bam! Then of course reality slaps me upside the head like a baseball bat- there is no way I was ready to crawl, much less take my first step. It has to come in baby steps as God sees that I am ready. He knows me so much better than I know myself.
What stage are you in? Are you taking baby steps to get to your next goal? Whatever that may be, I hope you are.
