I have to admit that I currently have a quilt obsession. Not that I collect quilts or that I actually craft quilts myself, but that I love the patterns and fabric combinations. The combinations! Oh, the combinations! They are unlimited, varied and gorgeous! New and old! The definition of quilting refers to the technique of joining at least two fabric layers by stitches or ties. This joining of multiple fabrics is very trendy and showing up every where these days- in home fashion, apparel fashion and was even featured on the Spring 2013 fashion runways in Milan! That is where the idea for this blog post was born. I LOVE this dress!!! What do you think?
You may remember a blog post a couple of months ago about how I use a vintage quilt top in one of my fashion designs for the Dee Dee Style Vintage Team Spirit tee. Ever since that post I have had a quilt obsession. I have been scouring Pinterest for lots of fashion ideas, etc. Check out my Quilt Teasing Me! board on Pinterest!
In addition to that board, I have been researching quilt fashions online and ran across some amazing blog posts and resources regarding quilts in fashion. Here is what I found.
- Lazy Girl Designs blogged in 2007 about the Spring Quilt Market and included photos of the Bernina exhibits around the show room. These are some amazing, vibrant works of art in fashion.
Check out all of the amazing talent and hard work that went into this show and hopefully you too will walk away with a dozen new ideas on what to do with that vintage quilt top or scrapes of fabric that you have from your grandmother stored away in the attic. Remember, Give something Old, New Life!
This is a beautiful blog, and I thank you very much for writing about quilts! And, for featuring my Jovial tree skirt. This particular tree skirt is sold, but I have more. They are my favorite item to make!
Isn’t the Gloria Vanderbilt coat awesome?!
Gail
I’m obsessed with quilts too!
Beautiful tree skirt, very festive.
This is a wonderful blog post. I just love what has been done with the quilt tops. Makes me think twice about what to do with my UFO’s
I love quilts too! I haven’t made any in a while, but have some baby quilts in the planning stage. I have made a few mini quilts that were shaped like musical instruments for a customer. They were fun to do. I really enjoyed your post here about quilts. I love the patchwork dress! It looks so 70’s!
Hi Deidra
I’m currently trying to make the dress in the first photo for a recycled textiles exhibition. Will send you a pic when I’m done 🙂
